The Nike Zoom Kobe V "Ring Ceremony"

October 26, 2010 marked the start of the 2010-2011 NBA Season, with the Los Angeles Lakers raising their 16th championship banner.  Before the banner was raised, the returning members of the 2009-2010 team collected their championship rings. To commemorate the special night, Nike unveiled the limited edition Zoom Kobe V “Ring Ceremony” for the reigning, two time finals MVP Kobe Bryant.

Following in the spirit of the previous Zoom Kobe IV “Rings,” the Zoom Kobe V “Ring Ceremony” exhibits the customary Laker purple and gold colors.  This shoe features the signature gradient coloring, but this time, starting with the gold on the toe area fading to purple.  The mainly purple upper, offset with the Nike swoosh and Kobe logo (on the tongue) in gold, is overlaid with a unique embossed pattern signifying the 5th championship for Kobe Bryant.  The pattern, marked with diamonds, the number “5” & “Five,” and “another cookie” drawings, is accented with gold highlights around the toe cap and eyestay.

The gradient coloring fades perfectly on the midsole, which contrasts the clear outsole. The all purple laces are a departure from the Kobe IV “Rings,” which carried the gradient pattern through the laces.  Finally, the heel counter displays the signature of Kobe himself in gold, and a special “MVP” insole rounds out the shoe.

The Nike Zoom Kobe V “Ring Ceremony” was made available to select Nike retailers on October 27.  Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, and Shannon Brown accepted their rings and played (Bynum did not play) in the game with them on opening night, as the Los Angeles Lakers went on to defeat the Houston Rockets in an exciting opener 112-110.
