Nike KD V - Christmas

Nike KD V - Christmas

Christmas Day has always been special for the NBA and all affiliated basketball sneaker companies.  We started off our Christmas Day look with the Adidas Top Ten 2000 Nightmare Before Christmas special.  As the new year has come, and Christmas Day 2012 is in the rear view mirror, we look back at two special shoes from Nike and Adidas – one that graced the court in Miami, and the other, taking the crown as the most luxurious shoe released this past Christmas.

Nike KD V - Christmas

A video game theme is played throughout the shoe

As one of the marquee match ups on Christmas Day, the Oklahoma City Thunder visited the Miami Heat in a 2012 Finals rematch.  The KD IV redefined the KD line, elevating the anticipation for the V.  For Christmas, the KD V was released in the most colorful and personal shoe on the court.  Drawing inspiration from his love for video games, Durant took the court in the pixilated KD V.  An 8-bit all over print is done in Hyper Blue, Atomic Green, Photo Blue, and Chilling Red, creating a wave effect on the upper.

The tongue stands out in all red, as the laces have a touch of the green/yellow.  Below, the translucent rubber sole creates a nice contrast in the Atomic Green.  Rounding out the KD V are the personal touches – on the tongue where the KD logo has pixelated lighting bolt and on the insole which depicts a mock video game featuring Durant himself.  The theme of video games and Christmas Day could not be more appropriate, and KD V Christmas Edition executes it with a fun look.  On the other end of the spectrum comes the highlight for Adidas Basketball on Christmas Day.

Adidas Rose 3 - Nightmare Before Christmas

Unlike the KD V, the Adidas Rose 3 Nightmare Before Christmas would not be seen on the court.  Nonetheless, the Rose 3 was the diamond for Adidas Basketball on Christmas Day.  Outdoing the Top Ten 2000 version, the Rose 3 features an all leather upper done with the shiny, swirl pattern.  Deep purple glimmers all around, broken up by black/white laces, and a speckled midsole.  The Nightmare Before Christmas theme comes with the color and feel of the shoe, and is solidified on the back of the tongue with the “12-24-12” date.  Finishing off the shoe is the glow in the dark foundation (outsole and speckles on the midsole), as well as the Adidas logo on the Achilles and stripes on the Sprint Frame counter.  This shoe definitely needs to be held in person to admire the pure beauty of it!

Swirly and shiny, the deep purple upper is luxurious, while the glow in the dark feature is perfect for the theme

The Oklahoma City Thunder came out on the short end of their rematch with the Miami Heat.  Durant had a game high 33 points.  Of course, Derrick Rose did not take the court for the Chicago Bulls, who fell at home 120-97 to the Houston Rockets.  With their teams unsuccessful in bringing a Christmas Day win to their fans, they surely did not disappoint their sneaker fans.  Both the Nike KD V and Adidas Rose 3 Christmas Editions carried out their themes perfectly.  On one end, the KD V represented a fun, Christmas morning aspect, while the Rose 3 took a classic movie and turned it into a luxurious masterpiece.  No two shoes this past Christmas better exemplified the melding of a theme and essence of the holiday.  Released Christmas Day the Nike KD V and Adidas Rose 3 Christmas specials were available in limited numbers.
